POM® Procedural Oxygen Mask®
The Procedural Oxygen Mask® was highlighted in the Clinical Care section of ASA’s COVID-19 FAQ as a potential way to limit dispersion.
The Procedural Oxygen Mask® (POM®) is a versatile multi-port capnography mask that allows scopes, probes and tubes to be inserted through the mask and enter the nose or mouth while maintaining a high percentage of oxygen delivered to the patient. The mask maximizes oxygen delivery and provides end tidal capnography monitoring for increased patient safety.
- Dual oral and nasal entry ports
- Optimizes oxygen concentration during conscious sedation
- Measures capnography
- Allows for unobstructed access to the patient
- Reduces interruption during procedures
- Latex free
Convenience without compromise
Patients are subject to increased risk for hypoxia during gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.1 During induced sedation, most patients suffer compromised oxygen saturation, and in some cases, diminished oxygen saturation levels are so significant that hypoxia or hypercapnia may follow. Supplemental oxygenation during these procedures has proven to be the most successful method for preventing hypoxia in gastrointestinal endoscopy.2
The POM can be utilized as a universal multi-function device:
- Upper endoscopies – EUS, ERCP, EGD
- Fiber-optic intubation – oral, nasal
- Nasal bronchoscopy
- Conscious sedation
- TEE
- PEG
A recent study revealed that the Procedural Oxygen Mask® (POM) supplied a higher oxygen percentage to patients under conscious sedation during endoscopic procedures than a nasal cannula with end-tidal gas monitoring.
Enhanced patient safety
The POM® Procedural Oxygen Mask® provides accurate EtCo2 readings, allowing clinicians to intervene proactively in real time, while providing nearly twice the Fi02 of standard EtCo2 cannulas, reducing the risk of hypoxia during gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures.3
Single device, two styles
The POM® Procedural Oxygen Mask® can easily be changed from a high concentration mask to a medium concentration mask depending on the need. There is a universal size inlet for the removal or insertion of high concentration and medium concentration adaptors.
Adaptability
There are two anatomically-placed modifiable membranes (entry points) on the POM® Procedural Oxygen Mask®, providing optimal access to the patient. The anatomically placed entry points are easily modified to accommodate the clinician’s device of choice.
